We are crazy about Edvard Munch's art.
There's no need to sugarcoat it. WE ARE CRAZY ABOUT MUNCH. Both his art and, to a great extent, his way of working on the development of his art. Throughout his career, he returned to his earlier works to repaint and reinterpret his masterpieces. It gives a unique picture of how Edvard evolved over the years.
This means that, for example, when someone talks about one of his greatest works like "The Scream" or "Madonna", it's not always the same painting they're referring to. To differentiate between them, we have chosen to label the different versions with, for example, the year or the way the art is executed.
The life of Edward Munch
Edvard Munch (1863-1944) was a Norwegian painter and printmaker, most known for his expressionist paintings. He is considered one of the most important artists of the 19th and 20th centuries, and his painting "The Scream" has become one of the most iconic paintings in world art.
Munch's life was marked by personal traumas and crises, which he often reflected in his works. He had a fascination with the psychology of human beings and their inner emotions, and his paintings are often very intense and expressive. Munch's works are known for their powerful colors and dramatic lines, and his style has had a great influence on many artists after him.
Munch's paintings are often associated with symbolism, and his works are very open to interpretation. He often painted motifs from nature, but also from the city, and his works are often a blend of the abstract and the naturalistic. Edvard Munch's works are known for having a deep and personal meaning and are still very loved and sought after today.
Edvard Munch fits perfectly with Scandinavian decor style
Whether it's because Edvard Munch is Norwegian and therefore his art simply fits extremely well with Nordic and Scandinavian interior design, is up for debate. Perhaps it's his universal appeal, with clean lines and minimalist design, that matches Danish simplicity and minimalism, which makes his posters so popular.
At the same time, Munch's art is also known for its intense emotions and dramatic situations, which can create an exciting contrast to the minimalist and simple Scandinavian decor. Munch's artworks can function as a prominent and eye-catching element in the room, giving it a unique and personal touch.
If you want to add a touch of scandinavia, art and personality to your home, posters with Munch's works are a good choice. They can add depth and character to any decor, while creating a visually impressive and refined expression.
It just seems natural to see a poster with one of his works in a scandinavian inspired home. His original paintings and prints would certainly have the same effect, should you be lucky enough to own one of them 😁
Which Edvard Munch motif is your favourite?
There are, of course, many opinions about which works are Edvard Munch's best, as it is with virtually all artists. "The Scream" is the most famous, but is it also the best? We don't think so!
For us, it's "Madonna" or "Vampire" that are two of his great works. But they are both, of course, executed in several different versions, and if we are to choose the specific versions of the two artworks, it becomes a bit more difficult. But we'll go with "Madonna" from 1894 and the "Vampire II" version, where the red hair really shines through.
And then there's also the picture that we call "Head by Head". We're a little unsure if that's the right title? Regardless, it has become an unusually beautiful poster that, in its rawness and simplicity, leads the mind back to the protest posters of the 60s. The great artists are often ahead of their time.
