Manhattan Rain
There are days when the city takes its own pictures.
The asphalt mirrors the sky, and everyone rushing past becomes part of the frame.
I just stood there, while the light worked alone.
Rain isn’t grey – it’s everything else that’s too busy.

On the way to the cinema. The rain is coming down hard, and suddenly a cyclist appears – heading straight at us.
A rare breed here, especially in a downpour.
The asphalt is heavy with water, and the light from signs and brake lamps colours everything around him.
One quick step into traffic. One shot, before the lens drowns.

Umbrellas - New York, 2014
A wet, dark and cold afternoon in Manhattan, close to Times Square.
Camera hidden under my jacket, rain pouring down.
Then suddenly the scene appears – the whole of Singing in the Rain at once.
Into the traffic. One shot, and gone again.

rain, neon and traffic in constant motion.
The asphalt of 8th Avenue is lit by an inferno of adverts and brake lights.
The darkness and the rain set the tone – the slow shutter did the rest.
