Street
The city never repeats itself. Light changes everything — even what stood still yesterday.
I walk without a goal. Find angles, rhythms, pauses between horns and heels.
Sometimes the pictures appear before I can think.
Other times I just bring the camera so I don’t look suspicious.
There’s not much romance in asphalt.
But there are stories in every single step.
Street Performance - New York, 2014
Most days, I can’t be bothered with lukewarm street performers.
But this one had something else in the air.
A long build-up. Annoyingly long.
But plenty of time to set the camera — fast shutter, fast motor — and let it follow the show without knowing what would happen.
Original photograph from one of our trips to New York. Later exhibited in Amsterdam – and still today, the click returns in my head whenever I hear the sound of asphalt.

Heroes on a Break - New York, 2014
Firefighters without drama. Just a break.
A wall to lean against, a bumper to sit on.
The city hums around them as if nothing had happened.
I lift the camera – not to honour, just to remember.

Smoking Ladies - Roosevelt Island, 2014
The gondola ride over the East River might be the only reason to visit Roosevelt Island.
But that day, the shot was right there – just outside a greengrocer’s.
Two women, cigarettes, and a kind of cool you can’t choreograph.
